Daniele Catalano, senior UX researcher

DANIELE
Who I am
Illustrated portrait of Daniele

Ciao stranger, I'm Daniele.

Senior UX researcher across SaaS, digital products, and medical-grade wearables. I tend to be the first researcher in the room, so I build the practice and the tooling from scratch, then hand people something that keeps working after I leave.

Research, and the things I build with it.

01ResearchOps × AI
Messy notes turning into one clean system

I turned our research playbook into an AI skill

So the work stays consistent even when I'm not in the room.

Claude skillDaily use by 4 researchersSelf-serve for ~20 designers
Problem

Everyone worked a little differently, and AI made it faster but generic. Faster, not better.

What I did

Ran a workshop to get our method onto paper, then encoded the playbook as a Claude skill: orchestrator, references, routing.

Impact

A brief now looks like our brief whoever drafts it. Then it jumped the fence: about 20 designers use it to draft surveys and write non-leading questions. Standards live in the tool, not in memory.

02Rapid AI prototype
A tablet that recognises a face and switches profile

Nobody switched profiles, so I made the tool recognise faces

Insight to working iPad demo in about two hours.

Born from in-store testingiPad demo in about two hoursOn-device, nothing stored
Problem

In-store testing of Vision X, our practice-management SaaS for eyecare professionals, kept surfacing the same friction: switching profiles on the shared iPad cost 30 to 60 seconds nobody had, so personalisation went unused.

What I did

Skipped the login. Teachable Machine and MediaPipe in an HTML prototype: it sees you, becomes your role, keeps the patient in place. On-device, nothing stored.

Impact

A stuck insight became a testable thing in an afternoon, cheap enough to put in front of real people.

03Longitudinal research

A diary study that changed the physical product.

Diary study ×2Oakley Meta HSTN + Vanguard12 + 11 participants3 + 2 weeks in the field
Problem

Smart eyewear is learned over weeks, not minutes. Labs and surveys miss what only shows up in real use.

What I did

Two back-to-back diary studies: 12 people wore HSTN for three weeks, 11 wore Vanguard for two, logging runs, rides and everyday wear as it happened.

Impact

Found a setup barrier, and in both studies the same temple comfort issue no short trial had caught. Converging evidence from 23 people made the case: the redesign is in production.

Something extra

Ever feel like you've done a lot, but your CV keeps shrinking it down to two pages?

I built a skill that interviews you, then turns everything you've done into blocks. Think Lego, not paragraphs. Paste in a job description and it builds the shape that matters most to that employer, out of the same blocks every time.

You don't sacrifice anything. You just show a different shape.

Not perfect. If it helps, it's yours.
